SFTV News and Info - September 1999 Archive Sept 5th Edition Reordering of the List I've done some rearranging of the order of shows in the listings, grouping them by more defineable groupings (Broadcast Networks, Syndication, Cable, and Kids/Animated). Shows that are on their last few airings will hang on for one or two more updates but won't be listed at the top of the file. Sci-Fi Prime New Episode Alert! Previous listings for September have shown mostly repeats for the four Sci-Fi Prime shows on friday night. The latest check of the Sci-Fi channel's Schedule Bot shows that most of them are running new episodes this month starting this Frida y, September 10th. Sorbo's Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda a go for Fall 2000 Tribune Entertainment announced that Gene Rodenberry's Andromeda is a go for Fall 2000 and that it has ordered two full seasons up front. It will star Kevin Sorbo and is being developed by former DS9 writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe. Sorbo will be the Captain of a starship trying to bring order to a galaxy in chaos. Season 2 of The Hunger debuts The second season of The Hunger has finally turned up, but not many people will be able to see it. Showtime is running a trilogy of the first three episodes this Friday night at 9 pm ET/PT, repeating at 10:15 pm ET/PT on Sept 15th. Subseque nt episodes, however, will run on Showtime Beyond, an additional Showtime pay chan nel which debuts on September 12th (see next article). No word on if the other epi sodes will turn up on Showtime eventually. The second season is hosted by David Bowi e, who starred in the original movie "The Hunger". Showtime Beyond Launches Sept 12th Showtime is starting a new channel, Showtime beyond, likely available via digital cable and digital satellite starting Sept 12th. It will focus heavily on Sci-Fi movies and repeats of the various Showtime sf series including Stargate, Outer Limits, and Dead Man's Gun. They will be airing the second sea son of The Hunger first run on Sunday nights at 10 pm ET/PT. They will also be running the original Lexx movies (i.e. "Tales From A Parallel Universe"). I'm not going to track the repeat showings on here but schedule info is easily available on the Showtime web site at http://www.sho.com . Fall Preview File available I've finally got together a file previewing the new fall season and beyond. It 's available at http://tv.acmecity.com/scifi/4/sftv/sfttsept.txt Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles Updated Info Things seem to have settled, although any info on this series is subject to change. It actually starting airing on the SFC on Monday, Aug 30th and will be running Mon-Thur on the SFC in the 7:30 am ET time slot. It will also be airing in syndication Mon-Fri, generally early morning. The SFC and syndicated schedules are identical except the SFC isn't airing the Friday episode. So if an episode debuts on Friday in syndication, it won't appear on the SFC until it turns up on on Mon-Thu. To add to the confusion, only a handful of episodes (10-12) are being shown initially so there will be plenty of chances to catch them. One webpage to check for updated info, including known schedule info is http://sicon.homepage.com . Schedule info is still very much in flux, having changed on the Sci-Fi Channel's ScheduleBot again on Sept 7th. Journey to the Center of the Earth Miniseries on USA Sept 14/15 The latest Robert Halmi, Jr. ("Moby Dick") for the USA Network is a four hour mini-series based on Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth. It airs Tuesday, Sept 14th (Part 1) and Wednesday (Part 2), Sept 15th at 8 pm and 10 pm ET/PT each night. Both parts will air Sunday Sept 19th at 3 pm ET/PT and on Saturday, Sept 25th at 1 pm ET/PT. It stars Jeremy London and Treat Williams. For more info, check out USA's web page at http://www.usanetwork.com/movies/journey/ . Museum of Television and Radio Los Angeles Fall Seminars Alert There's several Seminars coming up at the Museum of Television and Radio in Los Angeles this fall that might be of interest to some of you, be it comedy or science fiction. More details can be found under the "Seminars" link at www.mtr.org. All of them will feature an episode airing or video presentation followed by a Q&A session. These are all taking place at the museum in their theater that seats around 150. I attended the DS9 Finale screening there back in May with most ofthe cast on hand and it was definitely worth the trip. Stan Freeberg - September 14th with Stan Freeberg.
