SFTV News and Info Oct 24th Edition NBC's The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns NBC's November Sweeps Fantasy is "The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns" from Hallmark Entertainment. Randy Quiad stars as Jack Woods, a burnt-out American businessman who appears to be looking for rest and relaxation in the tranquil Irish countryside, only to be drawn instead into the wild, wondrous world of leprechauns, fairies and the conflict that divides them. Also starring are Whoopi Goldberg, Colm Meany, Keiran Culkan, and Roger Daltrey. The four hour miniseries airs on Sunday, November 7 and Monday, November 8th. As those of you who saw this past weeks episode, they will not be hiding her pregancy on Xena. Buffy Soundtrack Hits the Stores The long-awaited soundtrack album for "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" hit the stores last week. It features 18 tracks including the title theme. Crusade Soundtrack Also Available A soundtrack album from Crusade featuring Evan Chen's music for the series is now available from Sonic Images via their website at www.sonicimages.com . Harsh Reality - Harsh Realm's Plug is shut down. After last Friday's ratings on FOX being the worst first run Friday night they' ve had in a long time, Harsh Realm was cancelled on Monday according to the Associ ated Press. FOX will replace it and Ryan Caulfield: Year One with movies during Nov ember. No word yet on what will air on Fridays after that, although James Cameron's "Dark Angel" is a possibility. In addition to the lousy ratings and cancellatio n, Harris Comics, Fox and Chris Carter are being sued by James Hudnall and Andrew Paquette, co-creators of the comic book that the Harsh Realm series was based on. Part of this is a dispute with Harris over who owns the rights t o the comic. Not having the creators of the comic get any onscreen credit prompt ed Hudnall and Paquette to take legal action. SFTV News and Info Oct 12th Edition Sci-Fi Channel Picks up Lexx The Sci-Fi Channel has announced they are picking up the series Lexx, which has already aired in most of the rest of the world. SciFi will start airing the series in January and does have an option on the third series which starts airi ng on Canada's Space: The Imagination Station in November. Sci-Fi Channel Picks up Brimstone & Prey repeats The Sci-Fi Channel also has announced they have picked up the rights to run Brimstone and Prey, both series from last season that only ran for 13 episodes. Prey will not air until sometime next year but SciFi plans to run Brimstone during December on Friday nights (3-4 episodes each night) allowing them to "re st" their SciFi Prime shows. So, don't expect any new episodes of Farscape or the final episodes of Sliders until at least January. Campbell to be "Jack of All Trades" It had been reported that the Hercules replacement series "Jack of All Trades" had been developed with Bruce Campbell in mind, but that he didn't want to committ to a series. So much for that idea, because Campbell has confirmed that he will pla y the lead role of Jack Styles, a British agent based in the Carribean in the 1800's. The half-hour series debuts in January in tandem with Cleopatra 2525. Some Movie Sites of Interest Lord of the Rings movies - New Line has formally announced casting and producti on info on the Three Lord of the Rings movies, full details at their official site www.lordoftherings.net. Galaxy Quest site up - A "fan" site for the Galaxy Quest movie is up at www.galaxyquest.com . The movie stars Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver as cast m embers of a TV Sci-Fi series who get kidnapped by real aliens to help them defeat thei r enemies, thinking they are really the characters they played. The site is done up like a fan web site on the fictional Sci-Fi series, with quite a few parallels to "Star Trek". Sci-Fi Starts "Four-Play" Scheduling, adds Hercules, Tales From The Crypt Starting Monday, October 4th, the Sci-Fi Channel's weeknights schedule will be in a "Four-Play" mode with four hour blocks featuring different shows or subjects each night. Mondays will be episodes of "The Outer Limits", Tuesdays will be episodes of "The Sentinel", Wednesdays will be episodes of "Sliders", Thursdays will be a block with two movies, and Fridays will still be "Sci-Fi Prime". The four hour blocks will start at 7 pm ET / 4 pm PT, the series repeating two of the episodes at 1 am ET / 10 pm PT and the movies repeating at 11 pm ET / 8 pm PT. Also starting on October 4th is Mon-Fri airings of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys at 6 pm ET / 3 pm PT with a ten episode Hercules Chain Reaction on Monday, October 11th starting at 9 am ET / 6 am PT. Tales From the Crypt will air two episodes a night Mon-Wed at 11 pm ET / 8 pm PT. On Sunday, Oct 31st, they will have a nine-hour Tales From the Crypt Chain Reaction starting at 10 am ET / 7 am PT. Starting Nov 1st, Repeats of earlier episodes of Poltergeist: The Legacy will air in the Mon-Wed 11 pm ET slot. Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles Pulled from Sci-Fi According to reports, Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles is being taken off the schedule on the Sci-Fi Channel starting Oct 4th. This is due in part to not having enough new episodes to air but plans are for it to return to the channel when enough episodes have been produced to run the series as intended. It will continue on most of the syndicated outlets, although it may disappear from some of them as well. Museum of Television and Radio Los Angeles Fall Seminars Alert There's several Seminars coming up at the Museum of Television and Radio in Los Angeles this fall that might be of interest to some of you, be it comedy or science fiction.
